Projects

01 South West London & St George's Mental Health NHS Trust is the primary provider of mental health services in South West London, covering a population of around one million people. It is estimated that, globally, one in three people experience mental health challenges during their lifetime. Scientific research estimates that these people experiencing mental health challenges have a reduced life expectancy of ten years due to a range of comorbid cardiometabolic conditions associated with poor lifestyle behaviours and medication side-effects. Most recent research suggests that physical activity and regular exercise are effective in preventing and treating various mental health conditions alongside addressing physical health comorbidities, and promoting overall quality of life.
Lasse Eini conducted a clinical audit of the promotion and provision of clinical exercise therapy within the NHS trust.

02 The Finnish Defence Forces operate in a dynamic and evolving Arctic security environment, whose global strategic influence and importance have increased following the growing significance of Northern trade routes and minerals to the global economy. Thus, their capacity requires constant awareness and the ability to deploy rapid responses to various forms of hybrid influence on land, sea and in the air. The Defence Forces are transitioning to closely co-operating with NATO allies after joining the military Union in 2023.
Lasse Eini has contributed to a range of projects with the Finnish Defence Forces involving their operations in complex and changing environments, as well as conducting strategic research of evolving global conflicts.

03 University higher education builds deep, specialised knowledge and critical-thinking skills through structured research and exposure to diverse ideas and perspectives. High-quality university education and engagement expand career opportunities, drive economic growth and social mobility, and equips students with the analytical tools to engage with evolving technologies and thoughtfully with complex problems throughout their lives.
Lasse Eini has provided guest lectures for MSc students at St Mary's University, London, and at the Finnish National Defence University covering literature on behaviour change, mental health, and systems-level approaches.

04 Public health in Finland is organised through a strong system of wellbeing services counties, which since 2023 have been responsible for delivering healthcare, social welfare, and rescue services across the country. Municipalities remain responsible for promoting the health and wellbeing of their residents, while the public sector continues as the primary provider of services, supplemented by private and third-sector actors. This system aims to ensure equitable access to care, reduce health inequalities, and provide comprehensive, high-quality services that support the wellbeing of communities across every region.
Lasse Eini is actively working with the city of Helsinki to formulate research to assess the impacts of interventions delivered by the city of Helsinki to promote public health.

05 Dissemination of research findings at scientific conferences is the vital link between discovery and impact, allowing researchers to share results, receive critical feedback, and refine ideas through direct engagement with peers. This fosters collaboration across institutions, accelerates the pace of innovation, and helps translate emerging research into broader scientific and public awareness. It equips researchers with the communication skills and professional networks needed to build lasting careers and to ensure their work contributes meaningfully to the wider scientific community.
Lasse Eini has presented his research internationally online and at Birmingham, Manchester, London, Jyväskylä, Helsinki, and in Hong Kong.

06 Athletes striving for sporting greatness in their discipline navigate a double-edged sword of health and illness: the same training intensity that sharpens their focus and drives peak performance may also fuel anxiety, burnout, and emotional strain. Mental skills become as critical as physical conditioning, since the pressure, constant public scrutiny, and fear of injury may erode confidence and wellbeing over time. This is why mental focus and psychological support matter- they help athletes sustain performance while protecting their inner stability and longevity.
Lasse Eini provides mental skills training for a range of athletes competing at Finnish national, international, and world championship levels.

07 Structured research drives discovery and innovation through rigorous experimentation and collaboration across disciplines and institutions. High-quality research advances scientific and societal understanding, tackles pressing global challenges, and translates new knowledge into practical solutions that benefit industry, policy, and communities.
Lasse Eini collaborates on research projects and book chapters at the University of Jyväskylä, exploring themes such as public health, wellbeing, systems-level decision-making, and behaviour change. This interdisciplinary work contributes new perspectives to how individuals, organisations, and systems shape health outcomes and drive meaningful change.
